- Do I need to involve my IT people?
No. You simply start using the AchievanceHR® on-demand employee performance management software application – it’s ready to go “out of the box.” All that’s required is a web browser on a computer connected to the internet.
- What browsers does AchievanceHR work in?
Any browser that supports Adobe® Flash®. AchievanceHR will work in Microsoft® Internet Explorer, Firefox®, Safari, AvantGo®, Opera, and more.
AchievanceHR requires the Adobe Flash player version 9.0.124 or greater. We’ll automatically detect and upgrade your version of Flash, if needed.
- Can I use AchievanceHR when I’m offline?
No, AchievanceHR is an online tool. You need internet access to use it.
- Why don’t I need training to deploy AchievanceHR?
AchievanceHR is so easy to use, we don’t believe you will need much training. To get you started, we have included short training videos and a simulation right in the interface which you can use any time.
When an employee first launches AchievanceHR, we take them through a required 5 minute presentation. It is the fastest way to get up and running!
Any AchievanceHR user can review the training videos from within the application at any time.
- Must every employee use AchievanceHR?
No, it is possible to use AchievanceHR and invite only managers to have accounts. However, Achievance charges for each employee who has appraisals and goals in the system. So you will get the most out of AchievanceHR by inviting all employees to log in and participate.
You can start out by selecting a targeted group of users in your organization, for example, a team or a department, and have them try AchievanceHR for a period of time. Then, if you think that AchievanceHR fits your organization, you can add more users.
You can add or delete users from AchievanceHR at any time.
- I keep some of my human resources data in another system. Do I have to manage it manually in both places?
No. AchievanceHR has SOAP web services that allow external systems to access and update data in AchievanceHR (coming soon). This functionality allows AchievanceHR to be integrated with other systems, and also allows users with Administrator privileges to upload and export data from AchievanceHR using tools such as Microsoft® Access or Microsoft® Excel.
- Can AchievanceHR be my human resources system of record?
Yes. AchievanceHR was designed to track and manage basic human resources information.
Small and medium sized organizations lacking a human resources software application of record can use AchievanceHR to track and manage their employee information.
Go Green! If your human resources system consists of paper documents filed in manilla folders, then you should give serious consideration to AchievanceHR as your human resources system of record. Save a tree!
- Is my data safe?
Yes. Your critical information is stored using best-practice encryption technology, and the computer servers are logically and physically secure.
We use strong Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption to protect the data traffic between the computer servers and your browser.
- Who owns my data?
You always own your data residing in AchievanceHR. You can always export your data from AchievanceHR at any time. No more outsourcers holding your data hostage!
AchievanceHR has SOAP web services that allow users with Administrator privileges to export data from AchievanceHR at any time using tools such as Microsoft Access or Microsoft Excel (coming soon).
- What if I start using AchievanceHR and you raise the subscription fee?
We won’t. $4.95 per user per month is the subscription fee for the AchievanceHR base product. If we raise the new customer price for the AchievanceHR base product in the future, then the number of Individuals you have in the system at the time of the subscription fee increase will continue to pay only $4.95 per user per month as long as you are a customer. Any new features or enhancements we add to the AchievanceHR base product will be included in your “grandfathered” subscription fee.
Please note that we plan to add other levels of functionality beyond the AchievanceHR base product that will not be included in the AchievanceHR base product subscription fee.
- Can I request new features?
Absolutely! Please send us your ideas using our online
Contact Us form – we appreciate your ideas and will listen carefully. Since you can cancel at any time, we have to win your business each and every month.
- We have special custom appraisals. Can AchievanceHR support them?
Most likely, AchievanceHR can handle it. You can configure everything in the Appraisal, including the Rating Scales, Capabilities, and Capability Groups. AchievanceHR is highly configurable. And you won’t need help from IT or consultants. Any AchievanceHR user with the proper security privileges can make the configuration changes.
We have created a default configuration for Appraisals that will work for most organizations, so many customers will be able to immediately start using AchievanceHR with little or no configuration changes.
The best test is to sign up for a free trial of AchievanceHR, configure your custom appraisals, and see if AchievanceHR works for your organization.
- What if an employee sees something they shouldn’t?
AchievanceHR uses two types of user privileges to determine what an employee should see: System Privileges and Dynamic Privileges.
System Privileges are role-based.
AchievanceHR determines Dynamic Privileges “on-the-fly” based on the user’s employment status (Employee vs. Contractor), and their positions in each Hierarchy.
Because AchievanceHR manages a user’s privileges automatically, this sophisticated rule-based automation greatly simplifies administration. It just works.
- Can I print out appraisals and store them in paper format?
Yes. You can print out the major system features in AchievanceHR such as Individual General Information, Individual Lists, Appraisals, Goals, and Invoices. AchievanceHR allows you to download printouts in Microsoft® Word or Adobe® PDF format.
- When can I have AchievanceHR?

You can start using AchievanceHR immediately. You don’t have to wait days, weeks or months while you work with a professional services team or Help desk setting-up and configuring the system as is the case with other employee performance management software applications.
Plus, there’s no set-up fee to start using AchievanceHR.
- I’ve experimented with AchievanceHR and I like it. How do I roll it out?
Simply go to the Domain Admin tab and click on Account Invitations. Select which employees you’d like to invite. AchievanceHR will automatically send them an email invitation to participate. They will click on a link, create a user id and password and they are ready to begin using the system.
When a user first launches AchievanceHR they will view a five minute learning video and be ready use the application.
- Do I have to include my entire organization?
No. You can try AchievanceHR out on a management team, division, or some other subset of your organization. If you like it, you can add other parts of your organization as you roll out the application to other users.
- How does AchievanceHR handle contractors?
Every active Individual in AchievanceHR is either an employee or a contractor. Employees can see all Hierarchies and all Individuals. Contractors can only see Hierarchies to which they belong.
You’ll find that the privileges of Contractor in AchievanceHR "just work."
- How does AchievanceHR know who reports to whom?
You use drag and drop tools to set up Hierarchies in AchievanceHR to establish the relationships between Individuals. AchievanceHR has a single Corporate Hierarchy, and you can add as many Team Hierarchies as you wish. Individuals can exist in the Corporate Hierarchy and Team Hierarchies simultaneously. Team Hierarchies reflect the way your organization actually works and provide a practical solution to managing ALL of the activities of an Individual.
AchievanceHR uses the Hierarchies to automatically construct the proper views for each Individual in the system. This automation simplifies administration.
- Will AchievanceHR really help my organization improve performance?
Yes. When managers take the time to create SMART goals for their employees, and they follow up with them in an organized way, you’ll be surprised how much more effective your organization will become. Imagine if everyone in your organization was doing the right work at the right time!
Once managers are defining good, SMART goals, you can really energize the organization by tying pay components to the Goals. This is the path to a practical “pay for performance” compensation system.
Using AchievanceHR encourages these best practices while making employee management easier.
- What is a SMART goal, and why does AchievanceHR use them?
The AchievanceHR management philosophy is that Appraisals are used for qualitative rating, and Goals should be measurable, meaning that they have a quantitative rating (e.g. Percent Complete).
S - Specific
M - Measurable
A - Attainable
R - Relevant
T - Time based
Creating SMART Goals is at the heart of good employee management. While it is sometimes difficult for a manager to develop SMART goals, they are like a contract between the manager and the employee that defines success in the workplace.
Check out the videos relating to SMART Goals on the Achievance web site, and in the Achiever Series.
- Not all of my employees have computers. Does AchievanceHR make sense?
Yes. A manager with a computer can print out Goals and Appraisals, and perform employee reviews using a paper document. But the data is saved in structured format in AchievanceHR instead of being imprisoned in a filing cabinet.
An employee can access AchievanceHR from their home computer or from any computer connected to the internet. Since AchievanceHR is an on-demand software application, a user can access it from any computer connected to the internet.
- What about software updates?
We will update AchievanceHR periodically. You will get the updates automatically with no effort on your part. You will simply see the improvements as you use AchievanceHR.
- That interface is cool! I’ve never seen a web site like that. How do you do it?
Thanks. AchievanceHR is a Rich Internet Application (RIA), based on Adobe Flash. We used gaming technology to deliver AchievanceHR to you. While the computer experience at home has significantly advanced (check out the latest PC games!), the computer experience at work is too often like filling out paper forms. We feel that workers deserve a better experience.
We make use of drag and drop capability throughout AchievanceHR. Try sorting or rearranging columns, expanding or decreasing column width, or resizing the menu list. We built the user interface so that it’s not just cool, but it’s more efficient to use.
- What if I need help?
Try the Learning tab in AchievanceHR. If you still need help, give us a call or complete the online request for Help form.
- What happens if my credit card expires?
If AchievanceHR tries to charge your credit card and the transaction fails, AchievanceHR sends an email to all Administrators when the failure occurs. Also, AchievanceHR locks the Domain until the transaction succeeds.
Administrators can log on to the Achievance web site and change the credit card information.
AchievanceHR will retry the transaction every evening, and automatically enable the Domain when the transaction succeeds.
- How often do you bill my credit card?
Once per month. Billing occurs on the monthly anniversary of your start date (if you sign up on the 3rd of the month, AchievanceHR will charge your credit card on the 3rd of each month).
- What is the Achiever Series®?
The Achiever Series® is an online library of management best practices educational presentations that cover many topics applicable to frontline managers and human resources professionals. The Achiever Series presentations are informative and are included as a free bonus when you sign up to use AchievanceHR.
Every AchievanceHR subscriber has free access to the Achiever Series presentations.
